Post-Bariatric Surgery (Body Contouring)

Life after weight loss: Look good feel good.

Achieve your desired shape with body contouring surgery.

You’ve finally lost the weight through diet and exercise or weight loss procedure. The fat is gone, but your skin has lost its elasticity and cannot conform to the reduced body size and is left hanging in places you wish it wouldn’t.

Say hello to the new you!Body Contouring | Post Bariatric Surgery | Oklahoma City

Body contouring after major weight loss improves the shape and contour of different areas in the body and removes excess sagging fat and skin. As a result, Body contouring surgery is surgery tailored to your evaluation to achieve the best shape possible. This is, in essence, the final phase of your total weight loss experience.

What happens after weight loss?

Upper arms may sag and appear loose particularly in the inner part. An arm lift or Brachioplasty deals with the extra fat and skin and achieves a better shape for the inner arm.

Breasts in women may flatten in the upper portion and hang with nipples pointing downward and sometime inwards. While in men the changes are different but the redundant skin can cause considerable irritation.

In order to restore some of the lost volume and natural look of the breast in women; a breast lift or a breast augmentation or a combination of both might be needed.

As for men, breast reduction surgery can deal with the extra skin and breast tissue giving you the chest shape and look you want and deserve. This can be done with liposuction alone or a combination of liposuction and surgical excision.

Abdominal area may extend around the sides and into the lower back area, resulting in an apron-like overhang in the front called a pannus. Buttocks flatten; outer thighs can sag and cause hanging pockets of skin

Removal of the overhang or a panniculectomy does not address the laxity in the muscles. However, a tummy tuck or abdominoplasty would remove the overhang and tightens the muscles of the abdomen. As for Lower body lift and belt lipectomy: This is a procedure that specifically addresses the lower part of the body including abdomen, lower back, outer thighs and buttocks. The lower body lift (sometimes called 360 abdominoplasty) in women allows for the best contour of all those areas by removing all the excess tissue with the aid of liposuction too and lifting the outer thighs and the buttocks (which can be enhanced with fat for better shape). The result is a contoured shapelier body.

Belt lipectomy: in men, the redundancy is in the lower abdomen and back mostly not in the outer thighs. The belt lipectomy addresses the redundant tissue and gives the lower body a better shape without the need for lifting the outer thighs.

As for the inner thighs, these are best addressed with an inner thigh lift and liposuction; the lift can either be with a crescent incision in the groin crease or a vertical incision depending on the where the redundant tissue is.

Is it right for me?

  • Before you decide to undergo body contouring following major weight loss, your weight loss must be stabilized. At least three months of stable weight is the minimum.
  • If you continue to lose weight, sagging pockets will redevelop.
  • If you rapidly regain the weight, you will traumatically stress your already weakened and thinned skin, causing further stress to the skin, visible stretch marks and wide scars.
  • If you had weight reduction surgery, your plastic surgeon will work closely with your physician to determine when it is appropriate for you to begin body contouring.

Good candidates for body contouring are:

  • Adults of any age whose weight loss has stabilized
  • Healthy individuals who do not have medical conditions that can impair healing or increase risk of surgery
  • Non-smokers
  • Individuals with a positive outlook and realistic goals for what body contouring can accomplish
  • Individuals committed to leading a healthy lifestyle including proper nutrition and fitness.

Program Philosophy

WeightWise emphasizes a truly multidisciplinary approach to weight loss surgery. The four components required for the highest level of long-term success with weight loss are as follows:

  1. Patient Education – providing important knowledge about how bariatric surgery works and the lifestyle changes necessary to lose weight and also keep it off after surgery. We expect each patient to become involved as an integral part of the weight loss team.
  2. Thorough Medical Evaluation – the Surgeons, Dietitians, Psychologist, and Exercise Physiologist optimize all medical and behavioral aspects of each patient to prepare for safe, massive weight loss and maintenance of that weight loss.
  3. State-of-the-Art Minimally Invasive Bariatric Surgery – providing the least post-operative pain and the fastest patient recovery through state-of-the-art surgical techniques.
  4. Long Term Follow Up and Support – enabling patients to achieve their maximum long-term success.

Unfortunately, no cure exists for obesity.  Bariatric Surgery offers the only real chance (statistically speaking) of long term success.  Many medical conditions are resolved or greatly improved after operations for weight loss (Type II Diabetes, Hypertension, High Cholesterol, Obstructive Sleep Apnea among others).   Find out more at weightwise.com.
